Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan had learned many mystery passages not yet known to his father that he passed away in 1964. The family’s grief was broken. Nusrat lost his father’s shadow. Slowly, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan made his place, and then it was the time that Qawwali’s 125 albums were recorded and his name came to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Nusrat made new experiences in Qawwali, giving it a new life in the art by combining tradition and innovation, removing it from traditional circles and making it popular in other segments of the society, an example of which is the popularity of Qwali among cricketers.
During the 1992 World Cup, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Qawwali players helped to instill a passion for the players in moments of frustration, which Captain Imran Khan also acknowledged.
Prominent cricket commentator and observer Munir Hussain Late has written in his book ‘Journey to the World Cup’ that during the World Cup Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Qawwali ‘Dum Must Qalandar Mast Mast’ was made by the Pakistan team.
In the 1980s, the voice of Nusrat started to emanate from Pakistan’s trance and to the outside world. In the West, the aroma of his voice spread so that people said that with such a sound his ears were first known.
Among those affected by this sound was prominent music director, Peter Gabriel, who listened to Nusrat at a show in London and just kept listening. The range of this sound is so high that it is difficult to guess.
Meeting Peter Gabriel became the turning point of Nusrat’s career.
Gabriel gave Nusrat a chance to showcase his abilities in the film ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’, and with his work, he did justice to his fame. Nusrat’s talk for the film’s special scene was in line with the director’s demand, otherwise many singers had failed to reach his desired standard.
After this unprecedented success, Nusrat did not look back. Has the West and the East increased their popularity? In the 1990s, Bollywood became his name. Along with prominent poet Javed Akhtar, he released the album ‘Sangam’, whose songs ‘Offer Offerings’ got a lot of fame. Among his honors are AR Rahman, who composed his songs. He has appeared in a few Bollywood and Hollywood films. His work is minimalist but not important, so he will always be remembered.
